Program Update March’s Recording & Looking to April

Program update from Suzanne Sorkin:

I hope you were able to join us March 2nd for an interesting talk by history professor (and former AAUW fellow) Natalie Joy, PhD of Northern Illinois University. She spoke about the abolition movement and its intersection with those opposing Indian Removal in the early 19th century.

If you missed the talk do try to find some time to watch it by clicking this link below. The passcode you are asked for is    =s.#QG75

Looking forward we have our next program on Tues, April 6. The speaker is Lynn Stillings, an ethnomusicology graduate student at City University of New York (CUNY). Lynn’s talk is entitled “Performing Empowerment: An Ethnomusicological Study of Global Children’s Rights, Senegalese Childhood, and Musical Participation.” Knowing our AAUW mission she will include information about women’s and girls’ rights which she learned about while doing her dissertation field work. Anyone who’s interested in music, anthropology, and children’s rights should be sure to attend. Lynn is a current AAUW fellow.

To register for this Zoom meeting go to our AAUW-TC website: https://traversecityarea-mi.aauw.net

Soon the Zoom registration link will be listed there.

The speaker will start at 5:30 with questions from 6 to 6:30. If you’d like to join us a bit early for social chatting, we will “be there” starting at 5pm.
