March Program Update

The Liberator masthead, February 1, 1834, Collection of the Massachusetts Historical Society.

In February we enjoyed an interesting talk by Marjie Rich, MPH of Generations Ahead. Her agency offers practical support free of charge to local pregnant and parenting teens. If you missed it, it was recorded and can be viewed at:

The passcode for viewing it is: B&yb731+

The next branch program will be March 2, 2021, a Tuesday evening, from 5:30-6:00 pm with Q&A following until 6:30 pm at the latest. Feel free to join us as early as 5 pm if you’d like to check your Zoom or phone connection and enjoy some casual chat-time with other participants. Our speaker will be Natalie Joy, PhD, Associate Professor of History at Northern Illinois University. Professor Joy was an AAUW Fellow while writing her dissertation.

The title is “The Indian’s Cause: Abolitionists and Native American Rights”. Abolitionists were deeply concerned about Indian rights. It was a concern that began during the debate over Indian removal in the late 1820’s and early 1830’s and continued into the 1860’s. Be sure to let all the history-lovers you know that this one is not to be missed! Open to the public with advance registration so bring a guest.

As always, programs are on Zoom. The registration link will be available on our website: https://traversecityarea-mi.aauw.net and if you need a technical helping hand, please reach out and ask. Phones can also be used to connect.
