Auld Lang Syne
As we rush headlong into the final leg of the holidays, we are all aware this year has been very different. We hope you have figured out some way to be with others, no matter how creative you have to get. We also take a moment to remember the “days gone by” as we look with more hope to 2021.
Last month we reflected on all we have to be grateful for that came from this year of the unprecedented (we are tired of the word, too, but could not think of a more appropriate one). This month we want to keep our message simple. As we put 2020 to bed, please be sure you are taking care of yourselves.
If you do not have holiday plans and are feeling a little lonely or have other issues like mobility or trouble staying in touch with people, please reach out to us or one of your other AAUW sisters. Even if you just feel a little blah because you have not been as active as usual, we can help there too (starting with our Help Wanted Ads). While there have been more bright spots this year than we might have expected, we also should not pretend it has been easy to adapt and cope. We are all here to offer that cup of kindness.
We will end this simple message with one more note of gratitude for our Holiday Party. We want to thank Kari Kahler for connecting us with the NMC Music Department performance of “The Lesson of the Lark.” We also want to thank Pat Lewallen for organizing our bake sale and her team of bakers who made it happen: Jan Coley, Nadine Dolan, Marge Eckert, Ruth Jones, Betty Lien, Shirley Murray, and Bob Lewallen. We missed noshing on our usual spread and seeing one another as we bid on the silent auction, but all of these great people helped us spread a little cheer and we are grateful.
Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and hopeful rest of the holiday season,
Amy and Leanne
